When asked “If prapaththi is not the means, should the chEthana not require anything in his side to attain the goal?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully responds.
palaththukku Athma gyAnamum aprathishEdhamumE vENduvadhu.
For the goal, the chEthana requires knowledge about self and non-prohibition.
For the attainment of the goal.
svasvarUpa gyAnam (true knowledge about self). That is, being totally subservient to bhagavAn and being fully protected by him.
Not avoiding the protection of the nirupAdhika SEshi (natural lord) and nirupAdhika rakshaka (natural protector). That is, discarding the engagement in self protection. With the avadhAraNa (aprathishEdhamumE, affirmation), it is emphasised that nothing other than these two are required.
For the result which is explained in the charama padham (nArAyaNAya – last word of thirumanthram, i.e. ashtAksharam), the Athma gyAnam which is explained in prathama padham (praNavam – first word of thirumanthram) and aprathishEdham which is explained in the madhyama padham (nama: – middle word of thirumanthram), are only required.
