In sUthram 179, while saying “thannaith thAnE …“, the cruel nature of ahankAram (confusing one’s identity, ego) and vishayams (worldly pleasures) which are destructive to the true nature of self, were identified individually; now, piLLai lOkAchAryar is collectively identifying the specific cruelty which is common for both.
ivai iraNdum svarUpENa mudikkum aLavanRikkE bhAgavatha virOdhaththaiyum viLaiththu mudikkum.
Not only will both of these destroy the true nature of the self on their own, but will also cause enmity towards bhAgavathas and destroy the individual.
That is – these ahankAram and vishaya prAvaNyam which are with the aforementioned defect, will individually destroy the true nature of the self. Not just that, they will also lead to the great calamity of bhAgavatha apachAram and will destroy the self through that as well.
svEna rUpENa (on its own). bhagavAn’s anger towards committing bhAgavatha apachAram is greater than being attached to worldly pleasures due to ahankAram etc.
