avathArikai (Introduction)

The answer for the question “Are such SAsthram and thirumanthram, which is the essence of SAsthram, pursuable by all or only qualified persons?” is given here.

Simple Explanation

For the SAsthram which is focussed on the bodily layer, one should have perfect qualification. For thirumanthram which is touching the internal self, which only expects sincere desire, everyone is qualified.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

That is – since SAsthram is focussed on viSishta vishaya (AthmA and body together), its target is the external body rather than true nature of the soul which is internal; hence as said in thirumAlai 42pazhudhilA ozhugal ARRu” (in the lengthy lineage starting with brahmA, up to themselves, without any blemish) in the lengthy family heritage and conduct, one should have qualification of being without any blemish.

But, for thirumanthram, which is the essence of SAsthram, as said in thiruvAimozhi 10.5.1kaNNan kazhal iNai naNNum manam udaiyIr” (Oh you all who have the heart to reach the divine feet, which are present for his devotees, of krishNa who is easily approachable for all!) and SrI pAncharAthram “Sradhdhaivai kAraNam pumsAm ashtAkshara parigrahE” (To learn ashtAksharam, men should only need desire), as said in periya thirumozhi 6.10.6 “nAnum sonnEn namarum uraimin namO nArAyaNamE” (I have also told; my people can also recite nArAyaNa manthram), without any difference between qualified and unqualified persons, everyone can pursue it.

With this, SAsthram and thirumanthram expecting qualification and not qualification, respectively along with their reasons, are explained.
