dharmaputhra, as per the words of aSarIri (divine instruction from sky) and the great wisdom of SrI vidhura, performed honourable final rites for SrI vidhura.

Though perumAL (SrI rAma) observed general rules of dharma for the sake of others, since his divine heart was firmly focussed on special rules of dharma, he could perform honourable final rites for jatAyu mahArAjar; but what was done by dharmaputhra is rarer. He is of the nature to consider his varNa dharma (acts according to his varNa) as desirable at all times, and would conduct himself in a careful manner without failing; such dharmaputhra, while performing the final rites for SrI vidhura, observed SrI vidhura’s varNa and great knowledge and became worried thinking “What shall we do?” At that time hearing the words of aSarIri as in mahAbhAratham “dharmarAjasthu thathrainam sanchaskArayishus thathA | thakdhukAmObhavath vidhvAnathAkASE vachObravIth || bhObhOrAjan na dhagdhavyamEthath vidhura samgyitham | kaLEbaramihaithaththE naishadharma: sanAthana: || lOka vailakshaNOnAma bhavishyath yasya pArthiva | yathidharmam avApthOsau na SOcha bharatharshabha ||” (dharmaputhra, in that place, knowing that SrI vidhura is a scholar desiring to perform the final rites of burial (which is done for great personalities) and similarly seeing his varNa (of being SUdhra), desired to cremate him. At that time, there was an instruction from the sky saying “Oh king! This body which is carrying the name vidhura, cannot be cremated without manthra. Oh king! This honourable final rites which is eternal, is aptly attained by SrI vidhura. Oh king! Don’t be anguished! You are going to attain good name of performing this honourable final rites”) came, which informed that SrI vidhura deserves to receive brahma mEdha samskAram and his great knowledge which is well-known; dharmaputhra, without hesitation, performed brahma mEdha samskAram to SrI vidhura, which is to be performed for the leaders among the vaidhikas.
